Founding Partner

Martin founded HTSS in Barcelona in 2001, building on successful careers as both a senior operational manager in the medical device industry and a thought-leading consultant in European reimbursement and market access.

A graduate in Natural Sciences from the University of Cambridge in the UK, Martin spent several years in the pharma and medical device industry in Spain (Almirall, B Braun) before returning to the UK, where he held senior posts in EU Regulatory Affairs and Business Development (ConvaTec), and then set up the first ever dedicated European medtech reimbursement consulting group, within MTC Europe (now Quintiles Consulting).

In his last industry role, as VP Europe for Biomatrix - a NYSE-quoted implantable biomaterials company subsequently acquired by Genzyme for $740 M - he set up and managed several European subsidiaries and a distributor network, launched the company’s main product in a total of 17 European markets, and successfully obtained first-in-class reimbursement in several European territories and from Medicare in the USA.

Martin specialises in evaluating and integrating activity, policy, coding and payment data from multiple EU markets to provide a rounded – and realistic – view of the strategic opportunities and challenges for innovative medical technologies in the EU. He has worked with many of the industry leaders but has a particular focus on helping young, innovative companies and their investors who are looking to understand the complexities of the European biomedical marketplace.

Fluent in several European languages, Martin is a regular presenter, writer and conference chairman on EU reimbursement and market access issues for medical technologies.
